5 of the Most Leading Partnerships between AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli in IPL

IPLThe AB-Virat duo has been the biggies in the chase of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the history of IPL. It’s like roping in Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to get the best of both worlds in one team. De Villiers and Kohli have been playing for RCB together over the past seven years.

Despite the fact that the team has never won the title in the history, they have still won the hearts of millions of cricket fans. Both batsmen have unique and unmatched class.

The Indo-African duo has many things to share. Both of these cricketers are able to strike from the moment the innings start.

Obviously, they are excellent in running between the wickets. They are often seen turning the singles into doubles and doubles into threes. The players are also able to hit the ball in gaps and are always looking for mighty sixes when they want.

  1. Royal Challengers Bangalore vs. Gujarat Lions – May 14, 2016 – 229-run partnership at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium

In this eco-friendly match, the duo broke their own partnership record of 215 runs which was set in 2015. It was the highest partnership in the history of IPL for any wicket. They hit 20 sixes together in their marathon run and never gave any chance to the bowlers. RCB managed to score a huge score of 248 runs thanks to their epic partnership.

It was the first time where duo scored centuries in the IPL. When Virat Kohli hit 109 at a mammoth strike rate of 198, AB de Villiers struck 129 at a strike rate of 248. RCB won by a great 144 runs margin.

  1. Mumbai Indians vs. Royal Challengers Bangalore – May 10, 2015, 215-run partnership, at Wankhede Stadium

De Villiers and Kohli smashed the bowling attack completely in this match from Mumbai Indians. RCB batted first and lost Gayle when the score was only 20. Both Kohli and De Villiers brought storm at the stadium.

They thrashed every bowler off the park. The duo hit the unbeaten 215 runs of partnership and led RCB to set 236 runs of a target for the host MI. De Villiers slammed his second century in Premier League and scored 133 runs and Kohli scored unbeaten 82 runs.

  1. Royal Challengers Bangalore vs. Sunrisers Hyderabad – April 12, 2016 – 157-run partnership at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium

RCB couldn’t have a good beginning as Gayle fell again when the score was just 6. To join Indian captain, the South African star came in next and the rest is history. In just 87 balls, they shared a whopping 157-run partnership and led the team to reach the mighty 227 runs against great bowling line-up of SRH.

When Kohli scored 75, de Villiers hit 82 off only 42 balls. Villiers also won the Man of the Match trophy for his great innings.

  1. Kolkata Knight Riders vs. Royal Challengers Bangalore – May 16, 2016 – 115-run partnership at Eden Gardens

This 48th match of IPL 2016 edition was special. The host team had set 184 runs to chase for the visitors. This time, Gayle got a humble beginning by scoring 49 runs before he was out. But this celebration couldn’t last long for KKR as the AB and Kohli duo proved too heavy to them. They managed to put unbeatable 115-run stand, while chasing the score around an over earlier.  When Kohli hit 79 runs, de Villiers scored 59 runs.

  1. Royal Challengers Bangalore vs. Delhi Daredevils – April 17, 2016 – 107-run partnership, at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium

When Gayle failed this time, no fan expected such an onslaught here. Both De Villiers and Kohli came and not involved in their own stand but they worked hard to keep RCB to reach the challenging 191 runs to chase.

For the second wicket, the duo had a partnership of 107 runs where Kohli made 79 runs off 48 balls and ABD scored 55 off 33 deliveries. But the effort couldn’t save the team due to opening batsman Quinton De Kock, who entered with his first century in IPL.
