1. Manish Malhotra
At a very young age of 25, this talented designer set his foot in Bollywood when he designed Juhi Chawla’s costumes for Swarg. After that, there was no looking back for this super talented designer. Time and again we have seen his great work being worn by the leading ladies in super hit Bollywood movies.
2. Wendell Rodricks
Starting of catering graduate Wendell Rodricks changed the path of career and stepped into the fashion industry. What sets him apart from the other designers is his chic style sense and his passion for white. He is also a freelance fashion journalist in major Indian news media. His portfolio of work includes theater design, advertising styling, and forecast portfolios.
3. Bibhu Mohapatra
Bibhu Mohapatra went to the US to study economics but his love for fashion took him on a different path. His passion along with his formal training and education at Fashion Institute of Technology helped him in winning the 1997 Critics’ Award for Best Evening Wear Designer of the Year. His work has been appreciated on many great levels. He was seen designing masterpieces for the former first lady of America, Michelle Obama.
4. Ritu Kumar
Her ‘oh so elegant’ designs have wooed the classes and masses alike for an era. After its commencement in the year 1969 in the outskirts of Kolkata, Ritu Kumar label has spread across the country. What makes her designs unique is the combination of age-old Indian tradition with the contemporary swag. She was awarded France’s Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres and India’s Padma Shri Award for her outstanding contribution towards the fashion industry.
5. Sabyasachi Mukherjee
Fresh out of college (New Delhi’s National Institute of Fashion Technology in 1999) Mr. Mukherjee founded on his label. This brand later grew far and beyond the country’s boundary. He won the Most Outstanding Young Designer in India award from Femina British Council in 2001. He has also given the design for large budget Bollywood movies such as Raavan and Guzaarish.
6. Payal Singhal
Perhaps it is her genes that inspired this talented designer to set new parameters in the field of fashion designing. Daughter of Dinesh Singhal and granddaughter of the famous artist J.P Singhal, Payal Singhal won the Shoppers Stop Designer of the year at a very young age of 16.
7. Manish Arora
Right from the day of the launch of his label, Manish Arora has seen enormous success. His label officially launched at the 2005 London Fashion Week and received great reviews and two years later his successful show at Paris Fashion Week got Arora an invitation to the distinguished French Federation of Pret-a-Porter.
8. Tarun Tahiliani
He is the first Indian fashion designer to showcase his works at Milan Fashion Week, Tarun Tahiliani has made many contributions to Indian fashion over his career. Some of his most famous designs include British heiress Jemima Goldsmith’s bridal gown for her wedding to Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan in the year 1995.
9. Masaba Gupta
This young designer this a graduate from Mumbai’s SNDT Women’s University, where she studied Apparel Manufacture and Design. Since then her designs have been seen worn by famous Bollywood celebs Bipasha Basu and Shilpa Shetty.
10. Kanika Goyal
Kanika Goyal worked for fashion giants like Marchesa, Bibhu Mohapatra, and Prada before she went on to establish her own label in 2014. Her Summer Resort 2015 collection, ‘Creatures of the Night’ in Lakme Fashion week was praised on all levels.
